E-Tower Community

All members of the e-tower have ideas and business plans they wish to pursue while at Babson. The e-tower provides an environment conducive to the creation of student businesses and encourages active dialogue in the realm of entrepreneurial thought. By harnessing this highly energetic environment we hope to see the development and implementation of highly successful business ideas worth recognition in the hatchery program, the student business initiative awards, and the business plan competition.

We believe that fusing together entrepreneurial minds from across campus lays a foundation for unlimited possibilities. Aside from running student businesses, we will continue our dedication to having an impact on the community. By working closely with the Blank Center and other undergraduate programs such as ACE, our goal is to promote and further integrate entrepreneurship in all aspects of campus life. Above all, we seek to create a sustainable community that will outlive its founding members but continue to remain true to its purpose.

This last point is the most important. Each year that draws further away from the founding of the e-tower is one year further into the development of an independent and sustainable organization. The community is now made up entirely of members who are carrying the legacy of members from the past. This year the challenge has been for us to preserve the culture and values instilled in the community by its founders in years past.

Norms

  • A common understanding exists that members of the community are eager to contribute to other member's ideas and assist in developing solutions to problems. Members will not be required to own businesses, but must demonstrate an internalized commitment to actively pursue business ideas. As students, this means developing business plans in conjunction with Babson's entrepreneurship curriculum and utilizing the resources available on campus for student entrepreneurs.
  • Our flat, open, and egalitarian structure allows only for the position of a community manager who does not have more power in decision making than anyone else. Democracy prevails, and the majority will dictate all community-wide decisions.
  • Lastly, and most importantly, each member will show nothing but the utmost respect to other members of the community. Failure to do so will result in a community decision to ask the disrespectful member to leave the e-tower.
